Our Foster Care Program

Midcoast Humane has a lot of happy endings (nearly 3,500 of them annually, in fact) due in no small part to our Foster Care Program.  We rely on cozy homes and loving caretakers like you to care for animals in need until they’re eligible for adoption.  That could mean caring for young or soon-to-be mothers, under-socialized animals, seniors, animals recovering from sickness, or other animals with special needs.  Foster animals are most commonly cats and kittens, but can also be dogs, puppies, rabbits, and occasionally other small animals. You can become a Foster Parent for any one of these animals no matter what your experience with animals has been, even if you have other pets. If you’re unsure of your ability to care for these animals, don’t worry! Midcoast Humane will provide all the training you need – and our heartfelt thanks for opening your heart and home to an animal in need.  This program is family friendly! We encourage you to involve your family in the fostering journey.

Midcoast Humane provides all the medical care, food, litter, and bedding you’ll need, and you provide the comfortable, quiet environment these future pets need while they get ready for adoption.  If you’d like to become a Foster Parent, please contact our Foster Coordinator at 207-725-5051 or by email at foster@midcoasthumane.org.
