"When we least expect kindness and generosity, both can walk through our
doors in the form of young people."

Sandy, CHS Staff Member

It is heartening for us at CHS to see the dedication so many of the young people in our community
have for animals in need. We want to show you some of the imaginative things these young people are doing to help,
let you meet these young folks, and also say a public "Thank-you!" to them. They offer helping hands today
and a bright light into tomorrow!

Hello Neighbors!

That's how the appeal for Action for Animals 2007 begins. For the second year, three Brunswick families have warmed our hearts and the lives of the animals in our care.

On November 11, these families
collected donations from the Parkview neighborhoods of
Brunswick.
They then presented to us a trove of treasures we immediately
put
to use. With their adult supervisor, Abbey, Lydia, Kate and
Sarah brought in the items you see here. Of course, our mascot
Charlie
the Bassett Hound insisted on joining them as he explored during
the
photo shoot. Thank you, Brunswick neighbors!

The word is out. Coastal Humane Society is the place to come. Even
five-year-old Reese thinks we're great! How do we know? She hosted
Maggie, Grace, Katie, Dylan, Mason, T.J., Andie, Camie, Lanie, Jamie,
Dalton,
Austin, Abby, Hailey, Jacob and two Bens at her Halloween-themed fifth
birthday party... and asked each of her guests to bring a surprise for
our animals here at the shelter rather than for the birthday girl.

I asked Reese why she chose us to benefit from her generosity and that of her guests. She and her mom said they needed to surrender a cat long ago and they knew this was the place for that little one to receive the best care. They never forgot that kindness and wanted to return with a thank you gesture. Reese and her family now have two cats Jack and Jill they found abandoned. They also have their two golden retrievers Max and Stitch. I watched as Reese answered questions and was enthralled with her ability to maintain focus during what must have seemed a long conversation for her. She is a delight and we are grateful to have met her.

New stories about our wonderful young volunteers are posted on the first of the month, but please, check out our past Junior Volunteer Stories ...
