Volunteer

This webpage is dedicated to the memory of volunteer
Don Beattie, who was always there for the animals and people of CHS.

Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer at The Coastal Humane Society! We serve as many as 2,500 animals per year. We cannot do it without people like you. Our volunteer needs range from weekly commitments to once a year…and everything in between. We look forward to rewarding times together!

How to Volunteer:
Speak with our volunteer coordinator, Kathy Sullivan, at 725-5051 or email her at  ksullivan@coastalhumanesociety.org

Tiny. Plucky. Selfless. Generous. Four words that fit perfectly with
Janis Chapman. Many volunteers cross our path here at Coastal Humane
Society. We value and appreciate each one. Once in a while a volunteer
thinks "outside the box" and explores the "what would happen if" side of
volunteerism. Janis is one of those volunteers.

She arrived at our doorstep in January. She is a dynamic ball of energy. Besides volunteering at our shelter, she devised a fundraising effort centered on Valentine's Day. After discussing her idea with our volunteer coordinator, Janis sprang into action. She decorated the many boxes you see here with cat and dog photos then received permission to place them in local areas. People quickly filled the boxes with many needed supplies after checking our Wish List which Janis had attached to each box. Janis collected all the boxes (five of them!) and delivered them to CHS on February 14th as a Valentine's gift for our canine and feline residents. We received cat toys, rawhides, cat and dog treats, cat and dog food, towels, blankets, laundry detergent, and bleach.

Coastal Humane society extends a sincere thank you to the many people who donated. Though Janis posted a thank-you sign in all the areas that participated, we want to extend a public thank you via our website to Pet Quarters, Lazy Bones, Bowdoin Museum of Art, Bohemian Coffee Houe, Brunswick Hannaford, Merrymeeting Plaza Shaws, Brunswick Bookland, and Pejepscot Terrace.

Our animals are thankful for all the donations. We are thankful for Janis. She epitomizes selflessness and generosity.

Walking is a wonderful way to provide both emotional and physical health to an impounded animal. CHS has a great maze of wooded walking trails for our volunteers to use to give their animals a "cage break". Not only does it ease the obvious stess of impoundment, but also makes them more likely to find their forever homes!
