Senior/Hospice/Special Needs Pets

CHS is in need of adoptive homes that will provide care for its senior, hospice or special needs pets. There is no adoption fee for these CHS pets.
Senior pets make loving companions that often just need a quiet place to call home; the word "senior" simply defines their age group - not their vitality! "Charlie", shown on the left, is an example of one of CHS's past hospice pets - click here to read his story.
Hospice pets need homes that will provide care for them in the final days or years of their lives. This could be a very old, or terminally ill animal, in need of a comfortable home that can provide the love, dignity and compassion he or she so deserves. Hospice care emphasizes quality of life rather than simply length of life. Hospice pets are recommended for those who can accept death as the final stage of life and can find the reward in giving a loving home to an animal who would otherwise end its life in a cage.
Special Needs pets are animals requiring some extra attention due to a medical condition or physical infirmity. Diabetic, blind, deaf animals and FIV cats (learn more)
are some examples of these great animals that pay you back with a lot of love.

What does it mean when a cat has FIV?
These cats have feline AIDS which means they have a compromised immune system and must be kept indoors and away from all other cats other than other FIV+ cats. They will live a normal life span though they may get infections more easily than non-FIV cats. This viral disease does NOT pose any danger to humans or to dogs. It is transmissible only to other cats via bites, blood wounds, mating, etc. FIV+ cats do not require medication.
