"Mr Scuffy" (Jan/2007)
Mr. Scruffy came to us as a stray in August of 2006. We estimated the age of this chocolate retriever mix to be around nine or ten years. When he was found, Mr. Scruffy had a severe skin infection that caused him to lose half his body hair. What hair he did have was so matted we could make him comfortable only by shaving him. Mr. Scruffy's feet were so infected he could barely carry his own weight. With what can only be described as "green gunk" oozing from his eyes, the infection was so severe he could barely see. Not only was he infested with fleas, it was determined he had been infested for such a long period that he had developed an allergy causing his skin to look similar to raw hamburger. It was clear to us that Mr. Scurffy was in a better place with us than he had ever been before he came to us. With intensive medical care, proper nourishment, and daily soothing and loving by our staff, Mr. Scruffy began to look as if he might be enjoying his days more than he ever had. Within a couple of months, he was bounding about acting like a goofy teenager with all the joys of the world ahead of him. In November 2006 almost an exact three months to the day since he came to us, Mr. Scruffy met those kind people who would become his new owners. Today Mr. Scruffy is loved and happy - and we are happy too. Here's a letter we just received! ...
"Boomer" (Jan/2007) Boomer's new dad emailed us this letter from Boomer himself! ... ![]() My name is Boomer. I love my new home and my new dad. I'm now about eleven months old and love to have my picture taken. My dad and I are very happy together. He's thinking of bringing home a brother for me but I suspect he will not be quite as handsome as I am. "Eve" (Jan/2007) There's no question that this little CHS graduate is just "eating up" her new life. From Shelter Kitty to Lobster Kitty - this is definitely a Loved Kitty. EVE (We call her Evie) We cannot say enough about how much joy our little Evie has brought to our home. She certainly knew that we'd be a good match when she picked us from the shelter! We just moved into a new home and Evie loves jumping from window to window and exploring everything. Evie loves having guests because that means even more attention and petting, she really knows how to work a room! Evie also loves playing fetch with her toy mice, she slides across the floor after them and then pounces. Our Evie has such a unique purr, which is so loud you can hear it across the room! She's even a good sport about getting dressed up for the holidays and can hold a "conversation", because when you talk to her, she answers! Evie is an absolute sweetheart and has truly won our hearts. Best wishes to all at CHS, Amie and Andy Marzen... and of course, Evie.
"Teddy" (Jan/2007)
Remember Teddy with "those eyes"? (that's him at CHS on the left) Well, look at Teddy now - what a lucky boy! Dear CHS, We were hesitant at first to add a new member to our family, but as soon as we saw those eyes, and heard that purr we knew that Teddy had won our hearts. There was no way we were going to go back to school without him. He was a birthday present for Brian, and has also been quite the treat for us! Teddy, who we have surnamed Teddy Bruschi, seems to fit his name well. He may be small, but that does stop him from tackling our other cat, Scotty, when they are playing. We have learned a lot of things about Teddy in just a few short weeks. He enjoys talking to us, and makes sure we know when he's hungry, or just wants attention. Teddy also has what I like to call the 'instant purr syndrome', you don't even touch him and he's off like a motor. He also loves to play in the sink and shower, and does not seem scared of a little bit of water. Scotty has also fallen in love with Teddy, and they give each other baths. They are also very rambunctious as they enjoy stomping around like el! ephants chasing each other. It is truly such a joy to have pets, and they really are part of our family. We are so happy and lucky to have Teddy as a new member of our family. We appreciate everything CHS did to help us find him, and everything that CHS does for the pet community. Thank you! Sincerely Brian, Erin, Teddy, and Scotty!
Chloe (Jan/2007)
So where is Chloe now? We thought it might be fun to show you a chronicle of letters from her new family - we think she's very loved! (E-Mail Received January 10) We adopted Chloe yesterday and I wanted to give you an update. She ate chicken and about a cup of dry food yesterday. She absolutely loves my daughter. She slept in Amy's bed last night and my daughter says she snores. She did whimper a little bit when Amy went on the bus this morning. She loves the outdoors and is very curious, as she checks every inch around her out. We got her a little toy hedgehog and she uses it as a pillow on her bed or cuddles it. One of her favorite things to do is to cuddle up on her big dog bed and blanket with the toy hedgehog. She also loves one of my closest friends, Beth. She has peed outside and we are proud of her. She listens very well to simple commands, such as sit, paw stay, and no. My husband calls her "my pretty girl" and they are bonding quite nicely. Additionally, she loves to go outside. She is responding well to heel. Here are pictures: What an angel. Thanks so much. I forgot to tell you that she also loves to hear my husband play the mandolin while he is watching TV. What a riot to watch her watch him. She likes music. (E-Mail Received January 12) Chloe went to see Mark Adams (our vet) yesterday and he loved her too. He put a tick collar on her because he said the ticks are still out due to the weather. She gained a pound. Mark said that she was in good shape. Mark said it was karma that we got her because our other dog, Calvin, was off the charts (wild and nutso). It was someone's way of telling us that we did a good job with our wild man, Calvin. She also, (drum roll, please), POOPED!!!!! She loved the boys at Buckdancers Choice and was very friendly to everyone in my husband's store. Thanks again. (E-Mail Received January 15) The pup is great, eating some wet and dry food, sleeping well, seems very happy. Like lots of attention, but that is great. She just came in from the snow. She acts like a kid in snow. Puts herself to bed in Amy's room at 8 pm. What a riot. A little skittish around men, but not my husband, Steven. Should I send you a copy of her dog license? Loves the snow and her stuffed toys, treats them like her babies. (E-Mail Received January 21) Chloe is settling in quite nicely. She has taken over half the couch with Her "babies", as she cleans them and loves them. She has been eating dry and wet dog food with positive reinforcement (the terminology of teaching is coming back). She adores Amy and loves my husband, Steven. He is about the only man she really likes. My friends say it is because of his calm and lovable nature. (E-Mail Received January 22) Oh, by the way, I think Chloe has a boyfriend. His name is Charlie and he is a Lab. He looks like a football player, courting Chloe as she wags her tail like a cute cheerleader. "Brady" (Jan/2007)
Brady was known to us as "Buddy" - his new family are big Pats fans and named him after Tom Brady. As you can see this is one lucky little fellow that definitely scored a "touchdown!". Hello, My fiancé and I adopted Buddy the Beagle about a month ago and we wanted to let you all know how much we are happy he is in our lives. He is such a sweet boy. He’s doing well in his new home with his new brother Petey the cat. They get along quite well. Buddy likes to chase Petey at times but they are definitely playing since Petey has yet to scold him for doing so. We are taking Buddy to a training class to work on building our relationship and to train him better to respond to us. Again thank you for your service and for helping us find our little Buddy. "Tasha and Seth" (Jan/2007) Tasha and Seths new mom sent us this letter - her daughter adopted them for her last September and her son created this wonderful photo album, showing a "slice" of Tasha and Seths new lives. Hi, I'm a little late sending this, but I wanted to send you pictures of Tasha and Seth. My daughter adopted them for me the end of September. Her son, Kyle, actually made this album! Seth is a cuddle-bug. He follows me around and crawls into my lap whenever I sit down. He purrs and purrs and purrs. He's just what I was looking for! Tasha is coming around. She purrs and purrs too. I just have to look at her and she'll start purring. She lets me hold her for about 1 1/2 minutes before trying to get down. When she jumps up beside me, she'll stand with all 4 paws on me - kneading, but she won't sit down yet. (When I first got her she wouldn't do any of that. ) Seems like she wants the attention but is afraid. She's very busy loving from a distance! She sits like she's a princess, so we've been calling her "Princess Tasha". My daughter and her family are staying with me until they can buy their house. Their cat Flake came too. She sits like a princess too. They all do well getting along. Flake likes to play while my two don't. Tasha will stalk Flake around the room in slow motion, while Seth watches from the chair. She never catches her, just follows her around the room for a while. I'm so glad we found these two, we certainly do enjoy their company. They're indoor cats and yes, all 3 LOVE my waterbed! p.s. Tasha found her "chair" right away, but she'll share it with the other cats now!
